Freshen Up Your Home – Brighten Up Your Life

You’ve been comfy and warm in your house all winter, with furry blankets and cozy colors.

It’s time to get your home ready for spring!

Spring is here!

It’s time to lighten and brighten!

It’s time to freshen up!

These simple 10 tasks will make you feel a SPRING in your step every time you walk through the door.

1. Swap out your bedding. Freshen up your bedroom by dry cleaning and packing away your down comforter and flannel sheets and swapping them out for light, cotton bedding in a fun bright color. This one is from Wayfair.com

2. Swap out your lampshades. Freshen up your lamps. Pack away your dark lampshades and pick up a fun one in some light, bright colors. You’ll be surprised how much this will add to a room! This one is from Wayfair.com

3. Refresh your throw rugs. You’d be surprised how dirty those little throw rugs in front of your sink and in your bathrooms get. Yes, you can wash them, but after a while they just need to be replaced. Seasonally is a good way to do it. For spring choose one in a color that goes with your décor, but maybe a brighter version. 4. Paint your front door. Add some spring curb appeal. Your front door has probably taken a beating this past year. With the sun from last summer and the snow from the winter it probably could use a freshening. Why not paint it a fun color for spring? Come fall I’ll be suggesting a nice warm color! 5. Clean off your outdoor furniture. Get your patio or deck ready for spring and summer. Now is the time to get out there and get your outdoor furniture nice and clean. You won’t be sweltering in the sun while you’re doing it and you’ll be party ready! I use Windex Outdoor to clean off mine. It works really well, unless your furniture really needs a scrubbing. It hooks right up to the hose and gets rid of all the dust and cobwebs.

6. Add some colorful accents. I don’t know about you but spring makes me crave color. Adding some sunny, whimsical colors to your home is easy with inexpensive accessories. I even wrote a blog post about it once 😉 Pier 1 is a great place to find some spring accessories! Or you can pick up an accessorizing package, right on the Shop tab on detailsfullserviceinteriors.com

7. Swap out your throw pillows. Add some spring to your sofa. I had a fur pillow and a wool, pom pom pillow on my sofa. I love them for winter, but I pack them away for the warmer months. Try pretty pastel throw pillows or even some beaded pillows. You can find this one at Pier 1.

8. Add some plants and clean off your current indoor plants. Indoor plants need to be thoroughly dusted so that they can absorb the right amount of light to keep them healthy. And if you have silk plants you can put them in a bag of salt and shake to get the dust off. Or, you can replace them. There really are some nice ones out there. FTD sells this one. If you’re going with a faux plant, please get a good one!

Spring Flowers

9. Swap out your shower curtain. Add some spring to your bathroom. Shower curtains get gross too. And, again, you can wash them, but after awhile it’s just time for a new one. You won’t believe how much it brightens up your bathroom. This one is from Target.

10. Plant some flowers in your yard. Get your yard ready for spring. When you’re done freshening up inside head outdoors and add some color to your yard with some flowers. Right now it’s not warm enough in the northeast for anything buy pansies, but it will be soon.
