The Best Fall Decorating Ideas

Easy Fall Decorating YOU Can Do This Weekend!

Decorating for fall doesn’t have to be about skeletons and vampires.

If you decorate for fall instead of just Halloween it can last you right through Thanksgiving.

And, these are some easy, fall decorating tips you can do this weekend!

Here in the northeast when we think fall we think warm.

How do you warm up your home for fall?

Acorns in a glass to add fall color.

Two words – color and texture.

Fall colors such as deep red, burnt orange, toast brown and warm yellow all add the feeling of warmth to a room.

They make it feel cozy and comforting.

The best place to find things in these colors is in nature.

Bring in some pumpkins. You can even spray paint the pumpkins whatever color you want, even gold or silver.

Fill a big bowl with some colorful gourds or red delicious apples.

Place some fall leaves underneath items on your mantel.

You can even press colorful fall leaves by placing them between two pieces of wax paper, wax side toward the leaf, and ironing it.

Then remove the paper. These pressed leaves look great sprinkled down the center of a table as a table runner.

Fill a vase with acorns or small pine cones.

And there are always mums. They come in such beautiful fall colors.

Put them in a basket or a hollowed out pumpkin and line your stairs.

Sticks from your yard can make a great ‘floral’ (and free) arrangement for fall.

Adding Texture To Your Home

Adding texture to your home warms it up instantly.

Plaid, flannel, burlap, wool and felt are all fabrics with some weight that add warmth.

Swap out your summery, sheer curtains for simple burlap panels.

You can even purchase burlap by the yard, cut it to length and use drapery rings with clips, no sewing needed.

There are even great, inexpensive burlap lampshades, or you can attach burlap to an old lampshade using spray adhesive and neatly wrapping it around the edges. If you want to really go over the top, hot glue on some ribbon to finish off the top and bottom.

And speaking of lampshades,

if you have an old sweater you can cut off the bottom,

right under the armpits and use it to cover the outside of a lampshade,

again wrapping the edges neatly.

Faux Fur Throw - Coyote

Swap out cotton throws for wool or faux fur.

Wrap glass candleholders with pieces of old flannel shirts.

Secure it with pieces of raffia (more texture) so that it’s not permanent.

Just be careful that there aren’t any fabric edges near the flame.

Sew some quick pillow covers out of old flannel shirts.

Want something extra simple? Use pieces of different colored felt as placemats.

Even if you’re not crafty a quick walk through your local craft store in September will provide you with endless ideas.
